Plain-English guides to health, Medicare and money after 60

Editorial policy

How we research, write, check and update the guides on Bonivitas.

Our goal

We want every guide to be accurate, useful and easy to read. We write for adults 60 and older and their families, using plain English, short paragraphs and clear headings.

Research and sources

  • We base every guide on primary, reliable sources: federal agencies such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, along with established nonprofits such as the National Council on Aging.
  • We link to those sources at the end of each guide.
  • We do not use anonymous forum posts, product marketing or social media rumors as sources.

Health information

Our health guides describe general, widely accepted guidance. They do not diagnose or treat any condition, and they never ask readers to stop or change a treatment their doctor prescribed. We avoid promises such as "cures" or "reverses," and we encourage readers to talk with their own health professionals.

Money and benefits information

Benefit amounts, income limits and deadlines change every year. We state the year a figure applies to, link to the official source and update guides when new figures are announced. We do not promise that any reader will qualify for a program or receive a particular amount.

Updates and corrections

Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. We review time-sensitive guides at least once a year, and sooner when rules change. If you find an error, please tell us. We correct mistakes promptly and update the date on the guide.

Independence

Advertisers do not see guides before they are published and have no influence on what we write. We do not accept free products or payment in exchange for coverage. Advertising on the site is always clearly labeled.

Photos

The photos on our guides are licensed stock photography from Pexels, used under the Pexels license. They show models in everyday settings and are not photos of real patients or of the people described in our guides. We credit the photographer or source under each photo.
